History

AWM started with two friends organizing a happy hour and inviting "a few friends" who also had MBAs. When 50 women showed up at the event, they realized that they had tapped into an unmet need.

KK Hall and Karin Little started AWM in the winter of 2001 with the vision of connecting women with similar ambitions to form a support network for various career aspirations. KK and Karin believed in creating vehicles for our colleagues to connect and share. They also strongly believed in giving back to other women and educating them about the options available to them. Accordingly, AWM now organizes mentoring opportunities including working with high school and pre-MBA women.

The AWM vision is only as strong as the member network and our willingness to help each other. We look forward to the day that our network becomes tomorrow's leaders - in businesses, nonprofits, and government agencies.
